and the kids learning about it in class are going to be disgusted by the mere fact that gays had to even try to fight for what was rightfully theirs

One of my favorite little details - Dick’s WayneTech computer access code is his initials.

I can just see him doing his homework some days in an empty conference room at WayneTech, waiting for Bruce to finish work. ~~Like I did at my parents’ office.~~ I love the ways his life as Robin and his life as Dick Grayson overlap in this episode and in Schooled (“They’re at my school!”)

And the look on his face when he sees that the infiltrator fog is headed to WayneTech - he almost spills the beans to Conner before he catches himself. Then he springs into overdrive to stop it, at this point he’s the only one who can. Dick’s pulling double duty here, he has the team mission to stop the fog, but he also must do it without alerting the rest of the team to the danger it poses to Batman. This kid is so protective of Bruce and everything of Bruce’s. I bet he never actually complained once about having to wear the sunglasses.

Okay, so I guess I’m gonna dig into my YJ Dick/Batfam feels here. Seems appropriate. Today’s episode was a doozy.

The thing about the Batfam that the Arrowfam and the Flashfam don’t really share is that it is a secret club, even to the superhero community. There’s stuff they do and they know that no outsider knows or understands, that they keep secret deliberately. Every member of the Batfam knows what an honor and a privilege it is to be chosen for that exclusive club by Batman, and they love it! Dick said it himself, he was having so much fun he couldn’t stop laughing. But in addition to the joy of it, allegiance to the Bat comes with heavier responsibilities as well - responsibilities like protecting Wayne Industries. All this practice keeping multiple levels of secrets actually makes Dick ideal for leading the “Artemis and Kaldur Go Undercover” gig.*

See? Bats don’t even talk about The Mission in front of the team. Every member safeguards the identity secrets with their lives - even Barbara, who doesn’t do the sunglasses thing around the team, but who would undergo torture to keep Bruce, Dick, Tim and Jason’s IDs secret. This secret club thing is a big part of why I both really want to see a Batfam episode, and why I’m afraid we won’t get one. We might get a comic - after this current Brainiac arc is over. But the focus of Young Justice is the team, and there’s things about the Batfam the team will never know. So we might not ever get to know them either.

*Tangent (cause I can’t help it): How the big secret is gonna affect the Batfam, though. Oof. Tim and Barbara aren’t used to being on the outside of the inner-inner-circle. Their reactions to the deception when it comes to light are going to be the most interesting to me. Dick too, is all alone on this one. For the first time ever in his vigilante career. Far as we know, he’s keeping this secret even from Bruce - who’s off world now anyway, but Dick has probably never kept or tried to keep anything secret from Batman before. It is definitely in comics-continuity!Dick’s nature to do the tunnel-vision thing with big 7-layer-chess-type missions and to screw up his relationships and priorities while doing it (and historically Barbara has been the best at getting him to see reason… so maybe she’ll succeed where Wally seems to have failed for now?)

“I know much of the fandom is really angry over the whole replacement of Stephanie Brown, as am I, but I really wish the famdom would be as angry and vocal over the benching of Cassandra Cain. She is just so amazing and still has far more potential as Batgirl or even the Black Bat. ENDLESS POTENTIAL. And it breaks my heart even more considering the new upcoming Batman arc “Death of the Family” because Cass IS part of the family. SHES BRUCE’S ONLY ADOPTED DAUGHTER. I just really miss Cassandra…”
